14th April 2004, digital painting from pencil sketch, 23x30cm, inspired by Robert E Howard's legendary heroic character, though not any scenario in particular.

The initial sketch and a stage-by-stage of the rendering can be viewed here .

Startled, the mighty-thewed barbarian whirls around, his Cimmerian instincts alerting him to a presence not there a moment ago...  The Sorceress now stands atop the stairs above, her minions surrounding her, triumphant in their ambush.

'What new devilry is this?' are his thoughts as the Sorceress raises her arms and bright energy begins to crackle in the air.  A sultry smile spreads wide across her beautiful face, but Conan is already coiled like a cobra ready to strike.  The air becomes more charged while her hands rise ever higher, as do the hairs on Conan's neck: a primordial reaction of ancient aversion to magics.  He now knows his Atlantean sword can not help him here.

"Crom!" he curses under his breath while his muscles tighten, preparing for the mighty leap that will save him or kill him...
